Tips for finding a free lot
Live lot counts take much of the guesswork out of parking, but only if you read them well. These tips help you choose a carpark that will still have space when you arrive.
1. Check before you set off
Look up your destination before you start driving, or ask a passenger to check for you. Using a phone in your hand while driving is dangerous and against the law in Singapore. Installing Where to Park@SG on your home screen (see how) makes the check quicker: it opens straight to the map.
2. Read the number, not just the colour
The colour of each carpark is a quick guide. Green means 10% or more of its lots are free, orange ("Filling up") means fewer than 10%, and red means none. But 10% depends on size:
- At a 600-lot multi-storey carpark, "Filling up" can still mean 50 free lots.
- At a 40-lot surface carpark, it can mean 3, which may be gone by the time you arrive.
Zoom in on the map to see the number of free lots on each carpark, or open the List tab, which shows free and total lots for every carpark.
3. Pick a backup carpark
Lots can fill up in the minutes it takes you to get there, often in the evening, when residents come home. Before you leave, note a second carpark close to your destination. If you allow location access, the List tab puts the carparks nearest to you first, so the next-closest option is easy to spot.
4. Choose the right vehicle type
The car, motorcycle and lorry icons at the top switch between car, motorcycle and heavy-vehicle lots. Each type is counted separately, so a carpark that's full for cars may still have motorcycle lots. Only some carparks report live motorcycle and heavy-vehicle counts (about 210 of each in November 2026), so the app shows just those when you switch.
5. Be careful with "No data"
A grey carpark isn't necessarily full or empty: it just isn't sending live numbers right now. Treat it as unknown and prefer a carpark with fresh numbers if you can. The guide to live availability explains why this happens.
6. Follow the signs at the carpark
The app shows lot counts only. Signs at the carpark always take priority, for example for height limits, lots reserved for season parking, or parts of a carpark closed for works.
